FLOWERWORKS

2014

When the vibrant colours of blossoms superimpose on pitch-black backdrops, the eye wants to travel to a celebratory night of fireworks animating the dark sky. This photographic series depicts flowers arranged in the style and patterns of fireworks, inspired by the Japanese word “hanabi” which translates to “flower fire.” Placed inside a light-blocking, black tent and photographed under long exposure, the flowers appear to gain electrifying hues, and create the illusion of explosions in the night sky.
